Once again the infamous Strawberry Festival, held in the city of Garden Grove, California, brought in many a local and out of town-ers to this city’s greatest little Memorial Day weekend festival around. As usual it held a large televised Parade Saturday morning May 27th 2023 that I myself, being part of a Foundation fixture in the city and it‘s Strawberry Festival, partook in. So I saw firsthand how quickly the crowd had multiplied by early morning hours. The attraction of rides, games and fair food over a thankful Memorial Day weekend has always been an irresistible combination to many.
Now throw in some of your favorite Rock tunes played loud, live, and vivaciously and you have yourself a memorable music Memorial Day weekend, that will have you wanting coming back for more.
The Garden Grove Amphitheater, known as the Garden Amp, always has live band entertainment going for it’s patrons during these community events, and Saturday night’s featured bad boys were L.A. based Rock / Pop cover with originals, Band, D.I.L.F. ( Dads I’d like to @¥%!)
By mid evening the sea of people had grown colossally and people were overflowing through the blocked streets, checking out vendor tables and sponsored groups, looking through merchandise, as the festival is big on supporting local businesses and when doing so, you could not help but overhear hot classic shreds coming from the Garden Amp’s front main stage.
Though it took a bit to realize from the amusement area, there was music playing separately from the fair tunes…cool music, rocker tracks, punk hunks, but once you did, it was like something calling out. Upon hearing alluring licks, like many others, I made my way from the festival part to the Garden Amp, which is connectable at the end of the open Island parkstrip that the Strawberry Festival is held on, and has always been a local favorite music venue hang for bands and fans alike.
Upon arrival, 40 mins into their set, the band began rocking “Rooster” a classic shredder made to hit every Rocker’s bone. And being Memorial Day weekend, the lyrics were sure to hit in the profound way they were meant to, as Vets with service dogs were present at the fair and possibly there.
(Just adding a bit of intellectual information about the song. “Rooster” was written by lead guitarist and vocalist of Alice In Chains, Jerry Cantrell, about his father who served in the Vietnam war. Hence the reference to our Vets…the reason to remember and give thanks.) so Thank You all for your service.
D.I.L.F. Bellowing Rooster from their roster over Memorial Day weekend showed respect for our Service Members, present or not, and was crooned with heartfelt emotion. Coming from a family of Vets myself, I know acknowledgment is appreciated.
These versatile lyric licker musicians rocked out Lemmy Kilmister’s “Ace of Spades” Judas Priest “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’ “ The Black Keys “Gold On The Ceiling” Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” along with a few other mainstream hits with a high octane stage presence from their front D.I.L.F.
They cranked up known favorites along with several originals, including a funny vegan original referring to animals saying, give psilocybin mushrooms to the humans and they’ll let the chickens go, so they also brought a little bit of humor the their show. Though it might not have been meant in a funny manner to vegans, it made the audience giggle.
There was something alluring about frontman Jesse Blaze Snider rockin’ his raspy voice and drawing in music lovers from all over the place into the amphitheater.
But when the familiar strum of Johnny Cash “Ring OF Fire” began, I was not the only one memorized by his deep directional voice amplifying from the stage, because as you’ll see in the footage, people were standing upon feet…not sitting in their seats.
I had walked out into the front concession area for a phone call, but quickly returned when I heard the call of this song.
The embracing stage presence can’t be denied.
These known rockers were lively enough to pull patrons away from the Strawberry 🍓 Festival’s attractions and into theirs. With intense sound and a deep voice (depending on the song) vibrating from the Amphitheater, it wasn’t long before the small music arena exponentially filled up for the music attraction D.I.L.F. Brought.
So follow the band give them a like, tell them you heard it here, on Rockers Edge, & Inside The Orange Curtain, & be a fan for life.
